Mississippi E-911 Coordinators History
During the first quarter of 1994, several 9-1-1 Coordinators held
meetings at various locations to discuss forming an organization
that would serve only the interest of 9-1-1 systems and 9-1-1
related matters in the State of Mississippi.
While meeting at the Bolivar County 9-1-1 Office, on June 15, 1994,
the Coordinators that drafted the By-Laws of the Mississippi 9-1-1
Coordinator’s Association asked that the By-Laws be approved by
those attending this meeting. After the By-Laws were read and
discussed the attending Coordinators approved and adopted the
By-Laws that were present.
The next step was to have the organization charted by the Secretary
of the State of Mississippi and to elect the first officers. After
discussing this issue, a follow-up meeting was scheduled for July
20, 1994 by the Monroe County 9-1-1 Coordinator David Boozer. A copy
of the By-Laws was passed out at this meeting to the attending
members. This meeting was held at Best Western, located at the
intersection Highway 45 and Highway 25, in Aberdeen, Mississippi.
The following is part of a letter drafted and forward to 9-1-1
Coordinators in Mississippi:
As a 911 Coordinator, we trust you will realize how critical your
attendance is to
the future of 911 in Mississippi. We also want to go record and
state that this
organization will not diminish or detract from any existing
organization that exists, but will work closely with such
organizations to advance the success of 911 systems in this state
and throughout the nation. However, as 911 Coordinators, there are
matters, issues, problems, and concerns that are unique to us
serving the public in this area and those are the things that this
911 organization will address with your input and help. This
organization will give us a UNITED and CONCENTRATED VOICE when we
must deal with state legislature, Public Service Commission, South
Central Bell, Independent Phone Companies, PSAP equipment vendors,
and others as we endeavor to strengthen 911 in Mississippi.
The Incorporators of the By-Laws (listed below) have voted to
suspend membership rules at this meeting on July 20, 1994 for the
purpose of electing the organizations first officers.
Membership applications will be available at the meeting.
Sincerely,
By-Laws Incorporators
Jim Loncar --- Alcorn County Dan Minnix --- Chickasaw County
David Boozer --- Monroe County Danny Chestnut --- Itawamba County
David Senter --- Prentiss County Jimmy D. Green --- Marshall County
Lee Tedder --- Bolivar County
